I love seeing the space that creators work their magic, so I thought I would start an ‘Art Space Showcase‘ blog post to introduce fellow artist/illustrators.
Meet 52-week Illustration Challenge member Samantha Cohen and her ‘art space’……
1. Describe your art space…
‘The creation station’. Everything is squashed into the corner of my lounge room. I MUST be amongst the action in our home. If all my tools were tucked into a back room, no arting would get done, NONE! Can’t be having that! My Creation Station gets the afternoon sun which makes it the best spot in the house to end a busy day.
2. When do you like to create? Do you have a favourite day of week or time of day?
Art is a hobby at the moment. During the day I work in an Office environment, outside of work I am a single Mumma, so my creations happen at night when the house goes quiet. It’s the best soul calming therapy in the world. As you can imagine, the house is a mess.
3. Describe your art work. What are you working on at the moment?
Colourful! My father is an artist with the most incredible eye for colour. I have inherited the colour bug from him.
Currently the 52 week Illustration Challenge is occupying my time this year, it’s inspired me so much.
4. What mediums do you like to use?
After a 14 year art hibernation, I picked up my Pencils last year. It used to just be Graphite pencil work. This year is a completely different story. Anything bright and vibrant, I’ll use it. The go-to medium now is Inktense Pencils, they have improved my life! True story 🙂
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention Biros or ballpoint pens. The wonderful thing about biros is the softer you use them, the more they give the impression of coloured pencils, with the vibrancy that ink provides.
5. List five favourite art tools that you couldn’t live without…
Water filled brushes.
