Who is Nicky Johnston?
Nicky is an accomplished, award-winning illustrator with a unique and recognisable style. She has over 20 years illustration experience with over 40 children’s books published in Australia and overseas. She is highly expeienced in custom portraits, children’s book illustrations and as a live artist.

How do I book a live guest illustrator for a wedding or event in Melbourne?
You can book live illustration services by filling out the contact form below to check your date for availability. Because wedding seasons fill up quickly across Victoria, its best to secure your date 6 to 12 months in advance.
Live guest illustration is a unique experience for your guests adding an artistic and creative touch to your event.
The original artworks make a fabulous and personalised keepsake for your guests to take home. They will love your creative idea of wedding favour and will treasure them forever.
How many live wedding portraits can be painted during an event?
Each custom guest illustration takes approximately 8 – 10 minutes to complete, focusing on key fashion details and details of the guest. On average Nicky can illustrate 7-8 portraits per hour, depending on the complexity of fashion, and interaction with guests.
Nicky loves to chat to interested guests – if all the photos are not completed on the day, she will paint them in her studio and send them to you in the following days.
Do wedding guests have to pose while being drawn by a live illustrator?
No, your wedding guests do not need to stand and pose for Nicky. She will take a quick photo to use as a reference, so the guest can enjoy the celebrations, while she paints their illustration portrait.
How are the live wedding illustration artwork made?
Nicky (or her assistant) will take photos of your guest on their arrival.
All artworks are painted with professional artist’s watercolour paints and pencil on A6 size 300gsm quality watercolour paper.
They are individually packaged in a protective cello bag for safe keeping, and finished with a personalised sticker.
Will all guests recieve a live illustration portrait?
Your chosen package will determine the number of portraits painted of your guests.
Nicky will paint as many portraits as she can at the event, any photos taken that are not painted, she will complete in her studio and send to you in the following days.
You can either have your guests collect the artworks as they are completed or opt for all of them to be given to you, so you can send as thankyou gifts after your wedding.
Nicky has never met a guest who did NOT want to be painted!
Do you charge travel?
Nicky is located in Langwarrin, Victoria
Travel fees depend on your Venue location. Nicky will let you know travel costs when you inquire.

Can you paint groups?
Yes, absolutely. However, only one person will be able to take home the artwork.
Nicky recommends singles or couples in each artwork to ensure the everyone recieves a personalised painting.
Will the live illustration artworks be personalised?
Yes, Nicky includes complimentary Personalised Stickers for ALL artworks.
These include the couple’s names and wedding date, and are placed on the outside of cellophane packaging.
OPTIONAL UPGRADE – Printed Transclucent Slips:
These are printed and trimmed for the artwork to sit in when in the cellophane bag. These are designed to include your names/wedding date, or message/date, or anything specific that you would like! Accompanied by a little jewel, this allows your guests to have your message entwined with their artwork.

Can we meet before making a booking?
Yes of course! Nicky can provide an initial quote and information and organise a video catch up or phone call to discuss finer details, answer any questions you may have and generally ensure you are happy to have her help you celebrate your special event.
