Art Space Showcase‘ is where I love to share fellow artists and their work spaces.
Meet 52-week Illustration Challenge member Belladonna Raudvee and her ‘art space’……
1. Describe your art space…
The first time I won our small local art award I received a voucher for an art store. It was like gold. I excitedly went out and put my first ever art desk on layby. A year later we moved and my new desk sits in the shed collecting dust as there is nowhere to put it in the new house. I now use the dining table. A bit of organised chaos perhaps. My art supplies are scattered throughout the house, in cupboards, on top of wardrobes, on my dresser, under the bed…… One day I will have that studio!
2. When do you like to create? Do you have a favourite day of week or time of day?
Since I work in the dining room, the children tend to make it a dangerous spot for me to leave my work unsupervised so I prefer to draw at night. I love the silence and without the constant interruptions of the day, I can get lost in my drawings until the small hours.
3. Describe your art work. What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I am participating in the INKtober challenge which is an illustration a day for all of October. I am drawing Australian Christmas Party Animals, with hope to turn them into Christmas cards.
4. What mediums do you like to use?
Pen! I have real attachment issues with my pens. I love that once I have placed a line on the paper, it is final. Mistakes are what makes my style I think. Sometimes you have to change your whole design because of one tiny line and I like that.
5. List five favourite art tools that you couldn’t live without…
Sakura Micron pens, especially the 005.
2B or 3B graphite pencil, I love a good quality soft pencil.
Strathmore Smooth Bristol paper. That stuff is like silk!
Google. I love to google my ideas and enjoy the challenge of creating something that I didn’t come across.
